Notes From The Midnight Driver: 2 Voice Poem

"Notes From The Midnight Driver"
 Mom
 Son
Itrust my Son
 She shouldn't trust me
I am going on a date
She is going on a date
 Bad Idea
 I'm sure he'll be fine
She has no idea whats going on
It will only be for a little while
 Just enough time
 He won't cause any trouble
I'm going to drive to my Dad's house
I'm sure he won't touch the liquor
 Now where's the beer?
Did I leave the keys to the car?
She left the keys to the car
 Mistake
 He wouldn't try anything stupid
Time to go for a drive
What do I have to worry about
 Nothing will go wrong
 Crashed car
Why did I trust him?
 Ugh cops
 Now in the hospital
 What were you thinking?!?
Mom am I okay what happened
 You are certainly not okay
 Well what happened
 You crashed
So thats why I have a
 Headache
Yes
 This sucks
Yeah it does your in big trouble
Like I didn't see that coming

Slam!: Week of 2-3-14

Title: Slam!
Author: Walter D. Myers
Pages Read: 0-288
Prompt: Are the characters realistic (do they seem like they could be read people)? Why

or why not?

The characters in the story seem very real. It is about a teenager who his nickname is Slam. He grows up in a dangerous neighborhood where there is lots of bad things like drug dealing and stuff. He and his friends are the top basketball players in the area. This reminds me of Derrick Rose because he grew up in Englewood which is one of the more dangerous areas of Chicago.

So Slam and his friend promise to never sell drugs or get mixed up in anything. They both know they could have big futures. When Slam joins his new schools team he is not respected. This is because he is too flashy for the coach and the team. The team was terrible and Slam was great but coach wouldn't play him unless they were desperate because he didn't like Slam. Slam got really mad.Later on Slam learns to control his temper.

He figures out that basketball is a team sport and that he had to be less selfish. So he focuses more on winning with the team than him winning on his own. Then something happens that rattles Slam. He find out his friend has been drug dealing. He gets really upset. They known each other since they were little kids and he never thought he would do this. He thought he was smarter because they both could have big futures ahead of them. I like Slam because he is smart on and off the court. I enjoyed this book because it seemed realistic and it showed how some people can mess us their lives and others can have more perseverance and remember whats important.

Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Last Olympian: Week of 1-27-14

Title: Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Last Olympian
Author: Rick Riordan
Pages Read: 1-Finish (1-377)
Prompt: Tell me about the main character. What kind of person is he/she?

*Spoiler Alert*

Percy Jackson is brave. Then again all the kids at his camp are brave. He is smart and can use the ocean or any source of water as his power. Though all demigods have a weakness. This weakness can kill them if they learn to gain control it. But their weakness can be their biggest character trait. Percy's biggest "weakness" is that he cares about close ones too much. I know that doesn't sound like much of a weakness but his enemies do use it as a weakness. In fact in the first three books all the missions he goes on are because he is missing close ones.
In the Last Olympian it is Percy and Kronos's final battle. They both make themselves so they cannot be stabbed or shot except for a secret spot of both of them. The army of demigods gets help from archers, centaurs, nature creatures, and Hades the god of the underworld. Many people are dying. There is lots of battles. The demigods are protecting the Empire State Building because thats where Olympus is located. Almost none of the gods are there because they are off fighting Typhon. Typhon is the greatest monster ever. If it were to get to Olympus all hope would be lost.
But the Gods stop the great Typhon. Luke was a demigod who turned bad and led the rebellion versus the gods. He offered Kronos his body so that Kronos could fight before he gained his true form. But there is still a little good left in Luke so he is fighting Kronos for his body. Percy tosses Kronos a knife but Luke takes back over the body. He stabs himself in his weak spot and he dies along with Kronos who was using his body. Finally Percy gets offered immortality. He denies it instead he asks that all children of the gods are recognized and all minor gods must also be recognized. So in the end they are all happy.

Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Battle of the Labyrinth: Week of 1-20-14

Title: Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Battle of the Labyrinth
Author: Rick Riordan
Pages Read: 1-Finish (1-361)
Prompt: Does the title fit the story? Why or why not?

The title fits the story perfectly. Percy Jackson and his friends must save the camp and Olympus from complete destruction. So they must be led by Percy's friend Annabeth through a labyrinth that could kill you. Everything they do is through the labyrinth. But Kronos and his army are also using the labyrinth to get to the camp. So Percy and his friends must go through the labyrinth in order to find a way to stop Kronos's army.
So Percy, Annabeth, Grover, and Tyson must go through the labyrinth. They make Nico a boy who hates them be their friend again and save them several times. They also bring a mortal girl named rachel to guide them. Grover and Tyson go missing on a search for the God Pan. So Percy sees that Kronos has taken the body of Luke. They try to stop the army but it was too late. They find out that Kronos was already ready to attack the camp because he knew the passage.
They rush back to camp. Then the army rushes out and there is a full out battle. Many of the half bloods go down. But a man they were trying to convince not to help Kronos comes to help. He helps them stop the army. They stopped Kronos's army for at least that time. 2 campers were dead. And most of the camp is injured. Percy goes back home on his birthday. His Mom's boyfriend asks if Percy would be okay with him proposing to his Mom. He says that would be great since that made his Mom happy. Then Poseidon pays him a visit. They talk about what happened. And that there would be a much greater war very soon. Then he steps onto the porch
to talk to Nico who snuck over there and thats where it ends.

Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Titans Curse: Week of 1-13-13

Title: Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Titans Curse
Author: Rick Riordan
Pages Read: 0-Finish (1-312)
Prompt: Do you like what you’re reading? Why or why not?

*Spoiler Alert*

I like what I am reading. I feel like the books get better the farther you get in the series. I like that its a lot of action and adventure. I like that its based off of Greek Mythology. I thing the author Rick Riordan does a good job getting a lot of the facts right about greek mythology. I like that he continues to add more characters through out the books. My favorite character is Percy. He isn't as well trained or strong as all the rest of the heroes but he is smart and cares a lot about his friends. They say thats his weakness but he gets mad because he doesn't feel like thats a weakness but it may be. It seems like a lot of things get blamed on him and he feels bad and wishes he could do more.
I also like the relationships he has with the characters. The author also does a good job rising suspense. The Titan Lord Kronos is rising from the dead and he is getting a massive army. Percy is expected to have to face him in a fight. He doesn't like the pressure but he doesn't want anyone else to have to worry about it so he accepts the fact that he will have to fight Kronos.
In the book Percy gets Annabeth captured by the enemy. Thalia blames him for this. So there is a quest to find Annabeth and Artemis who both have been captured by Luke who used to be their friend but now serves the evil Titan Lord Kronos. Percy sneaks along because he feels like he must save his friend. His younger friend who they found ask Percy to protect his sister who is also going. They save Annabeth and Artemis but two people died and one of them was the little boys sister. He now hates Percy and they find out he is a son of Hades but they will keep it secret. Now they know this prophecy about the fall or victory of olympus is about Percy for sure because Thalia joins the hunt which stops her from aging because she becomes immortal so it has to be about Percy.

Tyson's Summer: Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Sea of Monsters

        Tyson The Cyclops

Hello my name is Tyson. I live in a cardboard box in New York. I go to school with my                 friend Percy. One day we went to gym class and there was the bully of the school and a bunch of other boys I had never seen before. Well while were were playing dodgeball they turned to big scary monsters. They were attacking Percy. He needed my help. So I went to help him. We beat up a bunch of them and then there was one left. Then a sword came out of the monsters stomach and a girl came out. She told Percy something and then disappeared. Then we met her outside and we traveled to a camp. At the camp we saved a bunch of people because some iron bulls were attacking but we stopped them. At camp I feel singled out. Oh yeah I forgot to tell, but I’m a cyclops. So yes I have only one eye. So of course everyone at the camp stares at me and says mean things. Then when they were deciding whether to let me go or kill me, then a big trident showed over my head. It was really cool.

The Adventure Begins

I was distracted by it by I still heard lots of whispering among the crowd. Then they tell me I am son of Poseidon the Sea God. So I was going to live with Percy since his father is also Poseidon. I was really happy and excited. A friend on camp show me how to build things. So each nigh I secretly work on a watch for Percy. Then Percy was going to go on a quest. Something to save a tree which protected the whole camp. The tree was dying. The quest was not given to Percy instead to some girl named Clarisse because the man who usually gave the quest, who name is Chiron was fired because they thought he poisoned the tree. But Percy was going anyway. So Grover, Annabeth, Clarisse (Percy’s other friends) and I went with him. This is a picture of us. I'm the tall guy with the glasses.
Then when we were sailing the engine to our ship blew up. Clarisse, Percy, and Annabeth were able to get away on life boats. I prayed to my father to bring me my friend Rainbow who was a dolphin to come save me and he did. So I went through this thing called the Sea of monsters and got to this island, which was very nice.

Saving The Camp

But my friends were in trouble. They were getting attacked by another cyclops. So i threw a big rock into the cyclops mouth. He chocked and fell into a huge ditch and we got away. So we got what we needed to heal, which is called the golden fleece. We wrapped it around Annabeth because she was hurt. It fixed her. Then bad guy named Luke captured us. But it was to late because we sent Clarisse ahead with the Golden Fleece. Then ponies came and saved us. Percy told me they were called centaurs but I call them ponies. They helped us escape and get to camp. They got Chiron his job back and the tree was healing. Then Chiron announced that we were having chariot races. I built a chariot which was equipped with cool things and let Annabeth and Percy use it. Oh yeah and I almost forgot to give Percy the watch. I told him to click the button on top when he needed help. He looked confused but I was excited because it turned into a shield. Then I got a letter from my father Poseidon. He asked me to go to his underwater base to build weapons for the camp and meet him.

Meeting My Father

I was so excited to being able to meet my father but I was sad to be having to leave Percy. I wanted to stay but I had to go. I told him I would make good weapons for camp then left right away. When I got there I met my father and we talked a little bit and he showed me his underwater base. It was awesome. I was really excited. But I was sad to be having to leave Percy. I heard that the Golden Fleece worked to good because some girl came out of the tree. What was her name again... oh yes Thalia. Supposedly a daughter of Zeus. She was killed when she was young getting to camp with Annabeth and evil Luke. I think they said her father turned her into a tree so she could still be alive and protect the camp. Someone said there is an important prophecy about her. That she would be dangerous. That she would save or destroy Olympus. Whatever that means. Well I’m gonna be in this underwater base for a while so I guess I don’t have to worry about that. I wonder if her and Percy will get along.
